Does sunscreen block vitamin D from being absorbed by the skin?
My doctor recommends taking vitamin D pills as 60% of the population doesn't get enough sun exposure. I was wondering if during the time I am exposed to the sun if I am getting vitamin D if I wear sunscreen.

It is the UV-B light that causes your body to produce vitamin D and sunscreen is designed to block it.
Check out this web page for information on why you need vitamin D and how much you should take.

According to the dermatologic literature, yes, sunscreen does block the sun from getting to your skin to synthesize vitamin D.
New info say that getting just 15 minutes a day of sun exposure on bare skin is enough to synthesize vitamin D, but that’s at the equator where the sun is strongest. If you live in northern latitudes and don’t east a lot of vitamin D fortified dairy products, take a supplement.
