Does sitting in front of a window give you the same effect as sitting outdoors for getting vitamin D?

My Dr. says I am low in Vitamin D and she wants me to sit outside in the sun, without any sunscreen on for 10 minutes, 2 times a week.
It's freezing outside, so my question is... do I get the same effect if I sit in front of a window with the sun coming through? The glass has no sunscreen protection like low E.
