Do you believe generic vitamins are the same as name brands?

My husband use to take Usana when his former company provided them for employees a few years back. He said they were fabulous. He had a lot more energy, and felt really good. They are expensive to buy so we won't be buying them now, since on a budget. I have always wondered if generics are as good as name brands. If everything on the label is the same, they should provide the same benefits, correct? Thanks ev1 ahead of time.

  1. yes. if you compare ingrediants on generic and name brands, they are about 99.9% the same. they are just as effective, at a lesser cost.

  2. Yes. The FDA requires that they have the exact same ingredients.

  3. The cheaper the vitamin, the less likely that the amount is correct and the greater the chance that the quality is less so it wont last as long (time on the shelf will decrease what your really getting).

I would try going to Sam’s club. They have some decent vitamins for a GREAT price.

  4. Yes, I do. They use the comparative ingredients.

  5. No offense but you won’t need generic vitamins or pills if you:
    *Sleep well with ample amounts
    *Eat healthy
*Exercise to keep a healthy body

You’ll have lots of energy, and be really healthy without the need of pills and vitamins. Plus you’ll save some money from those pills.

  6. Contrary to what some earlier poster said, the FDA does NOT regulate vitamins or other over-the-counter nutritional supplements. Generally, the ingredients of most generic vitamins are the same as the name brands. However, what no one can guarantee is the extent to which generics contain various impurities, including such things as toxic heavy metals, which the brand names work hard to filter out.

As always, remember "caveat emptor" i.e. Buyer Beware.
