Do women really have to eat like men?

Have you ever felt let down by your spouse because you’re not able to do everything together? And worse still, is one of you falling sick all the time and you just can’t figure out the cause?

You need to understand that the hormone levels in male and female bodies are different, and it would be healthier for both of you to accept that sometimes “being together, in sickness and in health, till death do us part” doesn’t mean that you have to eat, drink and share everything together.

Common sense tells us and also research has proved time and again that a man’s body and a woman’s body require different levels of everything from food to vitamins and medicines. While it is true that a high protein diet is necessary for building muscle mass in both men and women, the excess protein in a woman’s body could draw away the calcium reserve from the bones to balance the acidity from the protein. In men excess protein is associated with higher risk of kidney damage and cardiovascular diseases.

Likewise calcium and vitamin D is particularly important for women in lowering the risk of osteoporosis but studies have shown that men who consume high levels of calcium from food or supplements have more risk of prostate cancer. Women require more iron than men, and men who have high iron are more at risk for heart attacks. Fiber is important for all as it prevents constipation, diverticulosis and hemorrhoids, and even reduces the risk of some chronic diseases such as breast and colon cancer. But men require more fiber than women.

So what may seem okay for a man may not be alright for a woman. Usually, a woman’s body is more sensitive than a man’s. That is why a diet chart for a man never works the same for a woman. Therefore you need to know what is best for you and work it out accordingly by giving your body what it needs. You can also take vitamins and supplements to keep your body in top shape. There are many vitamins like beta-carotene, bioflavonoids, selenium, vitamin A, vitamin C and so on which are also commonly used as vitamins for eyes as they protect the eye from cataract and macular degeneration.  Eat a balanced, healthy diet. Develop the habit of exercising. You can begin with some simple leg exercises. Get creative, and join a dance club or go for hiking, swimming, bicycling or any other sport or activity that you have always wanted to do.

Take charge of your own life. Don’t just live and tag along. Remember you are unique and there is no one like you. Spouse included!!!
