Can you take vitamins after you drink OJ or with OJ?

I heard it somewhere that you shouldn't take vitamins with orange juice or drink orange juice 30 mins. b4 or after. Is this a myth or fact?

  1. Best not to take your vitamins with any acidic drink as it can affect absorption and the acidity can increase the inflammation of the esophageal and stomach lining. Plain water is best.

  2. Yeah, sure.

  3. It doesnt really matter..

  4. gotta be myth, ive done this loads and im still vaguely alive…

  5. I does matter depending on whats in your vitamin. The acidity in the OJ (and more improtantly grapefruit juice) interacts with some vitamins (and medications) and breaks them down in your stomach faster. Take the, 1 hour before or 2 hours after with a full glass of water.

Personally I take them before bedtime and have them sitting on the counter next to my toothbrush so I don’t forget.

  6. It does matter. Take iron with OJ – it helps both the Vitamin C and the iron absorb.

    But . . . i think it’s calcium that you shouldn’t take with Vitamin C.

There are two biggies – i know the iron for certain, but not so sure about the calcium.

  7. yeah but you’ll die

  8. I’ve done it more times than I can count. Most OJ has vitamin C in it, so it’s really just more vitamins you’re consuming. Only in a more natural method.

  9. Myth. Technically it is possible to overdose on vitamin C: you will get upset stomach and your copper and iron will drop, which may cause complications if you are pregnant. However I doubt you would be able to consume enough OJ and vitamins in 30 minutes to do so. In my UNPROFESSIONAL opinion you are safe.

  10. I’ve been taking extra zinc while I have a cold. It says not to drink OJ or have anything with citric acid in it 1/2 hour before or after taking the zinc. It doesn’t say why, but to be safe I follow that instruction. I take it with water. That’s the only vitamin or mineral I’ve found that has that kind of "warning", though there may be others of which I’m unaware.

  11. its a myth

  12. I don’t think it would matter, although if you’re drinking OJ you probabyl don’t need to worry about taking a C vitamin.
