Can heavy lifting cause a temporary rise in blood pressure?
After moving furniture for an hour, I went to drug store for a drink and decided to sit in blood pressure measurement station. It said i am 150/93. I have never had high blood pressure before. I'm 31 and in athletic shape. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Single blood pressure readings are pretty meaningless. In fact exercise tends to lower blood pressure. have your practice check it on a few more occasions.

moving furniture would increase ANYONE’S blood pressure you stop lifting/moving heavy stuff, give it a week, then try it again. Also, make sure to stay hydrated.

Don’t use blood pressure gauges in supermarkets or pharmacies; they’re rarely well maintained.
Since arterial pressure varies throughout the day, measurements intended to monitor changes over longer time frames should be taken at the same time of day to ensure that the readings are comparable. Suitable times are:
* immediately after awakening (before washing/dressing and taking breakfast/drink), while the body is still resting,
* immediately after finishing work.
Several BP readings on different occasions should be taken to assess hypertension.
