Can depression cause high blood pressure?
I've had depression for several years (been treated with medications), but I've noticed that whenever I'm feeling more depressed, my blood pressure goes up. Right now I'm 15 weeks pregnant and have been feeling pretty depressed recently. The last couple times I've been to my obstetrician, my blood pressure has been way up. The doctor is concerned about my BP since I'm pregnant. I was just wondering if depression can lead to high blood pressure. Thanks.

Absolutly. What do we do when we are depressed….worry, stress!!! Our breathing becomes more labored and chemicals are relased into out bodies and we don’t even know it. It’s a viscious cycle. Also not sleeping well can really be bad for your blood pressure. Try getting good restfull undesturbed sleep. Meditate, listen to enya or hypnosis on your mp3 at night. Try to relax any way possible! Good Luck!

Anxiety and stress definitely can, and often anxiety and depression go hand in hand. Then again it could be from pregnancy, a lot of women have problems with high blood pressure during pregnancy. It can be really dangerous, so take it easy and do everything your doctor recommends.
