Biotin 5000mcg or 10,000 mcg?

I have hasimoto's thyroiditis and take 50 mcg of Levothyroxine daily, invite health multi vitamin and 1G of folic acid. I noticed when I turned 38ish.... I was losing hair and my nails have always been weak and brittle. I checked everything out -- all kinds of blood work. Hormones, Thyroid, you name it -- everything is fine. My dermo suggested I take biotin. I want to take daily 5000 mcg or 10,000 mcg from Allergy Research Group. Anyone have any concerns? Let me know. Thanks.
Ooops. Yes, I mean 1mg of Folic Acid

  1. Am I reading it right that you’re taking 1 gram of Folic Acid, or do you mean 1,000 mcg (1 mg)? 1 gram of Folic Acid would completely be overkill since your body would excrete most of that unused… but 1 mg wouldn’t be that tough to utilize.

The normal recommendation for Biotin is 5,000 mcg. It is water soluble, so if you take more than your body can absorb, it would just be excreted out, so if you wanted to get 10,000 mcg, you’d be better off taking a 5,000 mcg pill twice a day. I haven’t heard of anyone who could utilize more than 5,000 mcg at a time before their body would excrete the remainder, so that would probably be your best bet.
Good luck and I hope I helped!
