Best treatment for extremely dry elbows?
I have tried vitamin E and vaseline but they were so greasy it got on my clothes and my furniture from leaning on my elbows. They are very painful at times from being dry and cracked.

A few years back I had problems with extremely dry skin. Not any more though thanks to my dermatologist. He told me I could get a script for a lotion that is 10% and around $40.00 per bottle or buy the same lotion for about $15.00 and it’s just as good. The lotion is under two names that I know of, Lac-Hydrin 5% or AmLactin. I have found Lac_Hydrin at Wal-Mart from time to time and usually can find AmLactin at Walgreens Drugstore. By the way AmLactin is now available over the counter in 12%. and costs about $15.00 for a 14oz bottle. I still use it frequently, one note about it, it will slightly burn for a few minutes when applied to really dry skin due to the lactic acid in it, but that stops after a few minutes. Both dry well leaving no greasy feeling or residue to rub off and work very well within a day or so. They both will cause your dead skin ( the rough dry skin ) to shed within a day or so if you use it twice a day. This stuff has been a God send for me and I have told several others about it who are now just as big an advocate as I am. Hope this helps and gets you some relief. ;)

I am not a doctor, but it sounds like a nasty case of eczema. See your dermatologist.

Oddly enough, chapstick works. When they are healed, you can take an emery board or pumice stone and smooth them out. My advice is to put lotion on your elbows before doing that so you don’t injure them again.

try going to a beauty shop where they do manicures and pedicures.
tell them you want them to do your elbows. they will "sand" them down to make them smooth and then you should be able to maintain them with some high quality lotion.
my mother has dry feet and she likes to use something called "Baby Oil Gel."

Bath & Body Works’ "Lay it on thick" worked WONDERS for my dry elbows!
You have to put it on every night and after you shower. EVERY TIME..but in just a few days, you’ll really notice a huge difference!

go and consult your DERMATOLOGIST-they can give you the right answer.

hydrate them at night. Take a bath then partially dry the area and dip the elbow in a bowl of water with a very thin film of oil on the water surface. You may have to put a lightly oiled bandaid with only the pad lightly vaseline coated, but only the pad every night initially. . Cortisone cream might also help initially (do not get it near your eyes). Resting weight on your elbows should be avoided. (e.g. while watching t.v. in a prone position. or reading in in such a position.)

You should exfoliate the dry skin and then use a moisturizer.
Don’t use any Vitamin A derivative.
Use AHA formulas to exfoliate and a good moisturizer after that.
good luck.
