African American hair care tips. What are some tips to keep my hair healthy and what products should I use? What is the best type of hair products that I can buy i stores and how much should I use on a regular basis?

I use Indian Hemp to grease my scalp. What other products do you suggest for healthy strong hair that I can buy from a local store?
Like what type of lotions, shampoos, conditioners, relaxers, grease, styling combs, styling tips. etc

Please list as much as possible. Will Vitamin E promote hair growth? I already started to eat more healthy.

  1. Avoid heat
Always air dry in braids or twists leaving a thick creamy conditioner on your length (Garnier Fructis is a cheap and good drugstore brand, natural organic products are very good as well… I saw a girl with amazing hair who uses cholesterol and wheat germ oil)
Always seal the conditioner with an oil (coconut and sunflower are great, the first one for moisture because it is very penetrating, and the second one for smoothing the cuticle or "taking care of the outer part" of your hair and keeping the moisture in because it has ceramides, not all oils have ceramides and they make a difference)
And if you feel like trying some good techniques, google or search on youtube: "oil rinsing", "baggying method", "deep conditioning" and "protein/moisture balance". These are 4 techniques that make a difference, you won’t have to use them all but some may make your life much easier.

For hairstyles without damage, look for "braid and curl" or "twist and curl" styles using flexirods. Keep your hair moisturized everyday with water, conditioner, aloe juice, vegetable glycerin, oil or what you prefer (my hair hates aloe and glycerin but many people love them), avoid bad ingredients (search "good alcohols" vs "bad alcohols"), remember that every person’s hair reacts differently to products, no matter the texture, and this is really all. And honestly: you won’t need to spend a lot of money or time once you know about these techniques.

Sleeping with your hair moisturized and in braids or twists can help you maintain your style as well. Some people use some setting lotion on top (i.e. diluited Lottabody) but I have never tried, or flaxseed gel. These are the 2 non damaging styling options that come into my mind. If you really need to use heat, use a diffuser or a heat cap and a heat protectant, but I have loved avoiding heat.

    I hope it helps!

  4. If you go to Sallys Beauty Supply store ask the workers, and they should help you with everything you need!
I go there all the time, and I see hair products for AA hair.

you can also get some products at CVS, I see them all the time in the hair isles.

  6. -Infusium 23 moisture for shampoo and conditioner

-Chi silk Infusion for daily use (dime size)

    1. DON’T grease your scalp, it is a common misconception that us black folk have to grease our scalps.
    2. We DON’T need grease. Anything that says anything about grease on the bottle we do not need. It’s NOT healthy for the hair.
    3. Get your relaxer done by a a licensed cosmetologist. DON’T do it yourself or let anyone else that is not licensed do it.
    4. I personally am not a fan of wrapping the hair at night, BUT what ever floats your boat. i roll my hair with curlers at night for fullness.

PLEASE don’t use Luster’s Pink Lotion or any products that are similar.
And YES vitamin e is good for your hair, but I would suggest taking it in pill form instead of just putting it on your hair.
