500mg vitamin suitable for a 13 year old?

I just bought these vitamins, 500mg, and it says 1 tablet is an adult dosage. I'm 13 years old, would it be safe for me to take one daily?

  1. Oh yes – take 10 of them if you’d like. Vitamin C isn’t stored in your body, so you can take a good deal. If the body needs it, it will use it – if it doesn’t need it, it will pee it out.

Lots of people take 1 gram/day – that’s two of your 500 mg pills. That’s not very much – consider that one slice of bread has something like 27 grams of carbohydrate (sugar).

  2. It depends on your weight. You could always consult your doctor if you have concerns. However, some people take 1000mg of Vitamin C per day. The excess vitamin C that the body doesn’t use is flushed out in the urine.

Another person you could consult is your pharmacist and maybe ask if taking Ester-C is better than taking regular Vitamin C. Ester-C I heard is a slow-release which enables the body to use it more efficiently rather than flushing it out.

In your spare time do a bit of reading on Vitamin C and how it is absorbed.

  3. yes it is perfectly alright. i would stay at 500mg for awhile. besides once your body is finished using the vitamin whatever is left is discharged from the body through the urin

  4. I’ve read your question a few times now and I must be missing the part that says you’re talking about vit. C. Is that what it is? If it’s vit. C then you could take that much but if it’s something else I would suggest you find out for sure what the dose is for your age. Some vitamins can be harmful in higher doses.
