1 of 5 Gary Taubes vs Dean Ornish – 7/26/2002
www.nytimes.com Men's Health: Saturated Fat - What if Bad Fat is Actually Good for You? www.menshealth.com Charlie Rose - NUTRITION PANEL 57:23 - 3 years ago Dr. Mehmet Oz, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center (GUEST HOST); Gary Taubes, Journalist; Dr. Dean Ornish, Founder and President, Preventative Medicine Research Institute; Dr. Barbara Howard, American Heart Association --- Transcend says: tinyurl.com Typically solid at room or body temperature, saturated fats are sticky and can cause red blood cells to clump together, inhibiting their ability to carry oxygen to the cells. Saturated fats can also cause blood platelets to stick together and form blood clots that can cause a heart attack or stroke. Reducing consumption of saturated fat improves the health of most people. They provide support to your cell membranes and serve as precursors to a variety of hormones and hormonelike substances. A middle of the road approach to saturated fat consumption is to consume about 3 to 7 percent of your daily calories as saturated fat. -- Don't Be Afraid of Natural Fat That's right, the kind that's found in a piece of meat, an omelet, an avocado, olives, or olive-oil-based dressing. Because fat alone doesn't raise your insulin levels, it has little to do with making you fat, contrary to popular opinion, says Valerie. High amounts of carbs coupled with high amounts of fat are the real culprit, she explains, since they stimulate the release of insulin, causing your body to store fat ...

@Vivalarachie this isn’t really a debate about what’s awesome for cooking…it’s about tackling obesity
July 12th, 2010 - 03:31
OZ is the lord of cock dogs
July 22nd, 2010 - 20:25
LOL, he had an actual human heart on him! that was hilarious.
August 7th, 2010 - 18:18
lol Taubes is like “why am I wasting time with these brainwashed idiots?”
September 9th, 2010 - 20:13
macadami nut oil is mono and its great for cooking

I know this is NOT a scientific argument, so don’t comment to me that it is not. I am just making an observation. Assuming that each of the people on that panel practice what they preach, I would say Gary Taubes is thriving in comparison to Dr.Ornish, Dr. Howard, and Dr. Oz. He looks like a lion compared to the other three, who look slightly better than anemic concentration camp victims. I see these almost vegetarian/vegan types in Whole Foods all the time. They always look sickly.

Who the hell brings a real human heart to an interview? WHAT THE HELL
October 26th, 2010 - 20:35
the grandma knows what she is saying.
November 17th, 2010 - 22:42
ornish has “carb” cheeks
December 11th, 2010 - 03:52
Listen to Ornish and Howard and you will not have to many years left in your short life. For Ornish, later in the interview, to say that he is not used to being considered part of the “establishment” is a complete misrepresentation of his “science”
Taubes got the last word with his book. I just wish he would have discussed the nutritionally dense components of saturated fat and choleserol rich foods.

ha now look what a douche Oz is now with his wife and her useless ‘distance healing’
December 17th, 2010 - 22:37
who ever listens to these idiots deserves to die .
January 10th, 2011 - 19:36
Why do they have Gary Taubes on this panel? He has no medical background, he’s a journalist and he doesn’t appear to have any reputable scientific sources to back his Atkins diet claims. All rhetoric and no substance.
January 11th, 2011 - 19:21
@Darkrider6970 she’s actually completely wrong, saturated fat is good for you, of course she works for the America Heart Association which is one of the groups that brainwashed you
January 11th, 2011 - 19:23
@sirmarkthomas because he is the only one who is unbiased. Like you said he is a journalist, he isn’t attached to a corporation that teaches him to follow what they want. And he does have substance, more substance than the other two on the panel, if you actually follow SCIENCE you would find he is right on the saturated fat issue.
January 11th, 2011 - 20:47
I know this isn’t at all scientific, but am I the only one who thinks Taubes looks much, much healthier than the other panel members.
January 11th, 2011 - 20:49
@newy219 Not sure if you are insinuating Dr. Ornish is working for some corporate agenda. I hope not. His proven methods for reversing cardiovascular disease with diet have been tested through blind studies and he was a guest speaker at TED for which he gave the pitfalls for the Atkins/Taubes approach. I don’t read Science Magazine for validity of dietary recommendations, if that’s what you meant by ‘SCIENCE’. Eating a heavy meat/ low carb diet won’t make you healthy and science supports this.
January 12th, 2011 - 05:43
@sirmarkthomas – I think Taubes was trying to sell a book, you know, the next Atkins scam. He is a cherry picker with zero evidence to support his claims.
January 15th, 2011 - 17:12
jpkabler, you’re exactly right. And I know that Taubes and Ornish, at least, eat according to their respective philosophies.
February 2nd, 2011 - 09:48
@Darkrider6970
She is parroting the dogma of the American Heart Association. I would be very careful before you judge by appearances. Follow her advise, disguised as a “moderate” apprach you won’t live long. She knows Taubes is right and she’s hedging her bets and back tracking a little towards his theory but she will never give up the dogma.
February 4th, 2011 - 05:16
“ooohhh yes wee do!” lol
February 4th, 2011 - 05:53
Yo, dude brought a heart.. screw your diagrams and illustration. Disagree with this bitches. Yes people died during the filming of this program.
February 8th, 2011 - 07:28
@Vivalarachie exactly right!
February 8th, 2011 - 23:10
Dean ornish looks terrible.
February 9th, 2011 - 06:14
Gary Taubes looks pretty healthy; good skin and hair (probably all that saturated fat). Also a slender and/or muscular physique.
Dean Ornish and Barbara Howard on the other hand? Dear God… Case closed.
